In the ever-changing landscape of international relations, the recent events in the Middle East have taken a dramatic turn. The friendship between Israel and Saudi Arabia, which was blossoming after 72 years of distance, has been abruptly halted due to the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Israel-Saudi Friendship: A Tale of 72 Years and 37 Days

The Emergency Summit

On a recent Saturday, Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, hosted an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab League. The primary agenda was the discussion of Israel's aggressive attack on the Gaza Strip and the formulation of a further strategy.

Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, during his opening address, painted a grim picture of the situation in Gaza. He described it as a humanitarian disaster that violates international laws and norms, including the United Nations Security Council and international humanitarian law.

The Call for Unity

The Crown Prince called upon all leaders to unite against this situation and take effective action. He reiterated calls to "immediately end military operations, provide humanitarian corridors for civilians, and enable international humanitarian organizations to play their role".

He condemned the senseless war in Gaza, which has claimed the lives of more than 13,000 people so far, including mostly children, women, and the elderly.

The Short-lived Friendship

Interestingly, this conflict has also affected the recently formed friendship between Israel and Saudi Arabia, facilitated by America's intervention. This friendship, which was taking shape after 72 years, has now turned into ashes due to the ongoing Gaza-Israel conflict that has been raging for 37 days.

 The Global Response

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called on the US during the joint Arab-Islamic summit to end its occupation and attack on Gaza to stop Israeli aggression and protect Palestinians. Iran, on the other hand, has urged Islamic countries to impose sanctions on Israel.

The Role of the Summit

The joint efforts of Saudi Arabia, the Arab League, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation have played a significant role in uniting Muslim leaders from around the world on one platform in Riyadh for the summit. This meeting also marked the first time in the last 11 years that an Iranian President has visited Saudi Arabia.

The Way Forward

As the world watches these developments unfold, the hope is for a peaceful resolution that respects international laws and protects the lives of innocent civilians. The recent events serve as a stark reminder of the delicate balance of international relations and the impact of conflicts on newly formed alliances.
